Official Details About the Upgraded Augusta, Maine, Parking Garage
Over the last decade, we have seen the slow but steady revitalization of downtown Augusta.
Even the pandemic could not stop this process. Sure, things slowed down a little in 2020 and early 2021, but progress was still being made.
Once lined with empty storefronts, Water Street is now home to many thriving businesses, from restaurants to breweries, bars, bakeries, boutiques, an indoor children’s play area, real estate offices, and more. Additionally, Front Street features a beautiful waterfront park and dock.
The draw of these businesses means that at times, downtown parking is hard to find. This is especially the case during the dinner rush on Friday and Saturday evenings. Personally, I've occasionally had to circle downtown several times before finding a parking spot.
Fortunately, there is a solution to the parking problem. Even better, that solution offers free parking!
The Dickman Street Parking Garage in Augusta, Maine
The Dickman Street parking garage, which has been around for decades, is often overlooked.
Located only a few minutes’ walk from nearly everything that downtown Augusta has to offer, the parking garage features dozens of free parking spaces. The covered lower level offers protection from the elements, and there are even more spaces on the roof level.
According to a press release from the City of Augusta, the parking garage recently underwent some significant upgrades, including better lighting, updated stair towers, repairs to the roof level, and the addition of two electric vehicle charging stations.
