How Many People Could Be Deported From Maine, New Hampshire, & Massachusetts Under Trump’s Policies?
If you follow politics, you likely know that one of the key points of President Trump's platform was the widespread deportation of the estimated millions of people who illegally entered the country during President Biden's administration.
In recent days, we have heard that as many as a quarter of a million undocumented people living in New York state could be facing deportation.
What about Northern New England? How would these policies affect those living in Maine, Massachusetts, and New Hampshire?
According to a recent article in the Boston Globe, despite the fact that President Trump has vowed to deport millions from across the nation, we are not 100% sure how those to be deported will be determined.
What we do know is the estimated number of undocumented people in each New England state.
According to a 2022 survey done by Pew Research, there were as many as 325,000 undocumented people living in Massachusetts.
Additionally, the survey found that there were about 5,000 in Maine, 15,000 in New Hampshire, 45,000 in Rhode Island, and 150,000 in Connecticut.
Of course, these estimates are over two years old, so the numbers could be significantly higher.

The article also notes that just over 46,000 people in New England have Temporary Protected Status. Having TPS means the federal government has determined that it is unsafe for them to go back to their home countries.
