Do You Remember This Long Gone New Hampshire Haunted Attraction?
New Englanders who love a good scare are really fortunate. We have some of the best haunted attractions in the country right here in Maine, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts.
Some of these New England attractions rival what you'd find at major amusement parks like Universal Studios.
Without a doubt, one of the most memorable New England haunted attractions was tucked away in the White Mountains of New Hampshire.
The Ghoullog
For over a decade (13 years to be exact), The Ghoullog operated from Cranmore Mountain Resort in North Conway. For a few weeks each fall, the well known New England ski resort became the scariest place in New Hampshire.
The attraction was the brainchild of two Mount Washington Valley locals, Lance Davis and Jim Chichwak. As the story goes, back in the early 2000s, they had their own haunted house in the nearby town of Jackson.
Word quickly spread about how amazing the haunted house was and, before too long, the team at Cranmore was knocking at their door in hopes that they would be able to work together. The rest is history.
The attraction operated between 2007 and 2013. Every year, it seemed to get bigger and better. The first year, the attraction encompassed a short walk from the base lodge to a chairlift, the ride up the mountain, and a scary trip through some of the buildings at the summit.
Within just a few years, it had expanded significantly. The attraction covered nearly every corner of the resort and even included different ticket versions (depending on just how much you wanted to get scared).
The event gave the area a big economic boost, too. Even though the area gets a lot of leaf peepers between the end of summer and beginning of Holiday shopping season, the attraction attracted a lot of younger adults and families. It also employed a pile of people. At its height, about 60 people were required to run The Ghoullog each night.
Sadly, after 13 epic, and terrifying, years the attraction had its final run the fall of 2019.

On a personal note, as a guy who lived in that area for over a decade, I was really sad to hear that the attraction was coming to an end. In an area that literally has some cool event going on all the time, it was one of my favorites.
