Earlier today, we told you that all of the northbound lanes on the Maine Turnpike near Kennebunk were closed due to a serious crash.

We now have more details about that incident.

According to a press release from the Maine Department of Public Safety's Shannon Moss, the Maine State Police are investigating a crash near mile marker 23 northbound on the I-95.

The press release explains that, just before 9 a.m. on Monday, police responded to a serious crash near mile marker 23 on the northbound side of the highway.  The crash reportedly involved three vehicles, one of which was a tractor-trailer.

The press release explains that:

The crash involved a 2019 Nissan SUV owned and operated by 45-year-old Kelly Adams of Lebanon, Maine, a 2022 Toyota SUV, and a 2004 Freightliner tractor-trailer. The initial investigation indicates that the vehicle operated by Kelly Adams rearended the 2022 Toyota SUV and then struck the Tractor Trailer Unit which was legally stopped in the breakdown lane. Kelly Adams sustained significant injuries and was transported to Maine Medical Center in serious condition. The driver of the Toyota SUV was transported to Maine Medical Center for evaluation. The driver of the tractor trailer was not injured.

It took approximately two hours for police to complete their investigation and for the road to be cleaned up enough for section of the I-95 to re-open to traffic.

The crash remains under investigation and, so far, no charges have been filed.  However, the press release does say that the case will be reviewed by the York County District Attorney’s Office.

Our thoughts go out to all those involved.
