Maine schools have no shortage of talented musicians.

If you attend a middle or high school concert, you will have the opportunity to see full-stage bands, jazz ensembles, and talented vocalists.

However, sometimes we forget about the marching band tradition.

While they may not be as prevalent in New England as they are in other parts of the country, we do have high school marching bands.

This weekend, you’ll have the opportunity to see some of the state’s best marching bands in one location.

The Lawrence High School Marching Bulldogs will be hosting a marching band competition at the school’s Keyes Field.

Lawrence’s marching band is made up of some of the best musicians in grades 7 through 12 from both Lawrence and Cony.  Under the direction of Mr. Caverly, the students have put together a performance that you need to see.

Other schools involved in the competition include Westbrook, Biddeford, Old Orchard Beach, Soth Portland, Dover, and the Blue Hawks.

In addition to the competition, the Maine Black Bears Marching Band will be putting on a special performance.

Gates open at 4 PM on Saturday (September 28th) and the competition starts at 5 PM.  Admission is $7 for adults, $5 for students & senior citizens, and the max cost for a family of 4 is $20.
