Maine is home to some of, if not the MOST, badass people in all of the United States of America.

And it's not just something we say, it's something we live year after year as we watch our local first responders go out and perform rescues that most of us would never even dare to attempt.

And once again, we have another incredible story about Maine heroism to share with you.

According to WGME 13, Maine firefighters were able to rescue multiple dogs from certain death in freezing cold weather on Thursday, March 2.

WGME is reporting that the Kittery Fire Department responded after reports of dogs fell through the ice in a small pond in the area of routes 236 and the Maine Turnpike. Officials said that once on scene, they were able to get the dogs out of the water in just "a matter of minutes."

How remarkable is that?

What exactly led the dogs to fall through the ice?

The news station said that a Maine man, from Eliot, had been out walking his pair of dogs when the two pups noticed some geese out on the ice of the pond, so they bolted to chase them. Once out on the ice, the dogs fell through.

Kittery Fire Chief, David O'Brien, told WGME 13 in part, about the department's rapid response,

"But everybody else had functions to do and a good team like they are-- there were no orders. When he was ready to go in the water, the ladder was in the water and the Stokes [stretcher] was ready and roped to go. So it was a good team effort. Where we live right on the seacoast and we also have numerous ponds around us-- it's constant. A lot of people think the only thing that we training is how to find a fire and it’s much more in-depth than that."

Officials said, according to WGME, that as far as the health of the dogs goes, both of them took off running when they were out of the water- so they're good to go!

Thank you to the Kittery Fire Department, and all of Maine's selfless first responders, for everything you do to keep us -and our pets- safe!
