If you’re looking for a way to beat the winter chill and warm up your belly, look no further than the brand-new restaurant in Veazie, Maine!

According to WABI, the new spot is called Shamee, and they are excited to serve up mouthwatering Mediterranean food for all.

Located at 1492 State Street, this is the brainchild of Abdullah Al-Fdeilat, a Palestinian-American who wanted to introduce a taste of his family heritage to Maine, as per the post.

I know many of us love trying to food and even more so, learning about what's happening in the kitchen.

As per the article, the name Shamee comes from the Levant region, which includes Syria, Lebanon, Jordan, Palestine, and Iraq.

"Sham" refers to the fertile, holy area, and the food, made by a Syrian family from Damascus, brings all the delicious spices and flavors of this region, according to WABI.

If you’re a fan of falafel, baklava, and shawarma sandwiches (who isn't?) Shamee’s menu is sure to make your taste buds dance!

Abdulla told WABI,

"We like things sweet when it comes to desserts and spiced just right when it comes to meats. Our food smells amazing and tastes even better, thanks to all the wonderful spices we use."

As per the article, Abdullah came to Maine over 20 years ago to earn his PhD in Chemistry at the University of Maine, where he met his wife. He told WABI that he noticed there wasn't much of Middle Eastern dining options in the Bangor area, so he used that as an opportunity to share his culture’s food.

The grand opening was successful, and Abdulla told WABI,

"We’re here to stay, and we hope to add another piece to the beautiful, beautiful country that is America. You fill a belly and feel happy!"

Shamee is currently open Fridays and Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m.
