Bangor Police Charge a Smyrna Man with Arson for Walmart Fire
Bangor Police have charged a Smyrna man with arson for a fire at Bangor Walmart.
When Did This Happen?
Bangor Professional Firefighters reported on their Facebook page that they were on the scene at approximately 6:00 Friday evening. A customer in the store recorded a few seconds of the fire, before exiting the building, and gave us permission to use it.
Where in the Store Was the Fire?
Officials say the fire was in the menswear section of the store. You can see in the video that the sprinklers were activated. Bangor Firefighters were able to contain and extinguish the blaze but the store has extensive water and smoke damage.
Who Has Been Arrested?
On Saturday, Bangor Police reported that Lucas Landry, 44 of Smyrna was arrested as the result of a joint investigation between the Bangor Police Department and the Maine State Fire Marshal. Officials reviewed security footage from Walmart and identified a suspicious person in the vicinity of the fire when it started. That person was determined to be Landry.
Investigators arrested Landry at his home on Saturday and transported him to the Penobscot County Jail, charging him with arson, which is a felony, and also for violation of probation. He was on probation for a previous charge of burglary.
Police say this remains an active investigation and anyone with photos or videos of the scene are encouraged to submit them through an online portal.
