Maine And U.S. Flags At Half-Staff On Friday For Lewiston Victims, Survivors
Governor Janet Mills has ordered all state and U.S. flags to be flown at half-staff Friday, marking the anniversary of the Lewiston tragedy.
18 People Died in the Lewiston Shootings on October 25th, 2023
It's hard to believe it's been a year since 18 people lost their lives and many others were injured when one man walked into two establishments and opened fire. One year since people who were out to have an enjoyable evening at Just-In-Time Recreation and Schemengees Bar and Grille, both in Lewiston, found themselves locked in a nightmare.
Governor Mills Says Our Strength is in Our Community
October 25th will always be a sad day in Maine, as residents remember the shock when they first heard the news and the loss in the days following. Governor Janet Mills says our strength in the wake of this horrific event is in our community as Maine people.
As we continue down the long and difficult road to recovery, let us remind ourselves that we are not alone, we are 'Lewiston Strong,' and that we will continue to heal, together.
The Governor's proclamation recognizes the victims and survivors, but also the many members of law enforcement who 'ran toward the danger,' and the medical personnel who tried valiantly to save as many victims as possible.
Maine and U.S. Flags Will Fly at Half-Staff Friday in Remembrance
Governor Janet Mills is marking this sad day by directing that all United States and State of Maine flags be lowered to half-staff statewide in remembrance and honor of those lost, injured, and impacted by that horrible night.
Our thoughts are with all the victims' families and friends, as well as the survivors as we mark this anniversary.
