Let us all raise a Marden's receipt to Karmo Sanders aka Birdie Goodins aka The Marden's Lady.
According to WMTW, she passed away on Saturday October 26th, 2025 peacefully in her Scarborough home.
If you grew up in Maine the chances are you absolutely have heard her voice, saw the commercial, or her stand up.
Karmo Sanders, The Marden's Lady was our state mascot for ever. She was known to her fans as Birdie Googins.

She turned one simple discount warehouse into something legendary. Because of her charisma, quirkiness, and comedic genius, none of us can come to Maine without going to Marden's.

She became a household name and beyond that, her unforgettable commercials played through our homes all the time.
Karmo was not just the Marden's Lady, she was a comedian. Actress, and acting teaching at University of Southern Maine.
She was a powerhouse in the New England arts scene and everyone knew it.
As per the article, she was born in Norway and spent her entire life, telling us stories. Her husband Jerry wrote musicals with her like The Gold Rush Girls and Spellbound!
Also creating a comedy play called Homer Bound with is still being performed today. And of course, the iconic Marden's commercial from RateMyCommercial on YouTube.
As per the article, after her husband passed away, she continued to do what she knew, create. She was so keen on sharing everything she knew with the younger generation too and did so at the University of Southern Maine.
