Who’s Got The Best Sign? Local Maine Restaurants Take On Humor
I always get a laugh out of the message boards on Smoked Windham's sign, but they aren't the only ones bringing the funny. A new player is in the game, and this deserves what I am unofficially calling "The Battle of the Boards."
First Up: Smoked Windham
Smoked Windham, formerly Binga's at the intersections of Main Street/Route 202 and River Road, has been using its message board for years. Not for specials on their menu, but for laughs. The sign gets changed regularly, and it's always funny and sometimes clever as well.
Here's their latest as of August 2, 2025:
This is a twofer between what's on the sign and the caption on the Smoked Facebook page. Do you know the reference?
Step Brothers
In 2008, Step Brothers was a hit comedy starring Will Ferrell and John C. Reilly. Their characters were forced to live with each other as stepbrothers and it is many memorable moments, both of which Smoked reminded us of.
First, "Did you touch my drumset?"
And second, "Did we just become friends?"
Well played Smoked Windham!
Docks Seafood in South Portland
Anthony Donovan got a picture of the sign at his favorite seafood restaurant, Docks Seafood. They're on the corner of Broadway and Evans Street in South Portland. This is the first sign I've seen from them, thanks to Anthony posting it.

Not bad guys. You've got to love a good Dad Joke. That one's right up there with the classic "Where do surfers go for an education? Boarding school." Groan all you want. It's good stuff. Trust me. I'm a dad.
Battle of the Boards
Here's my challenge. I want to see a friendly competition between Smoked Widham and Docks Seafood to see who can come up with the funniest message board sign. Make it happen, guys. I'll be watching.
