I’ve Accidentally Become Pen Pals With a Portland, Maine, Artist
My lack of knowledge of how the internet works led me to become pen pals with a Maine artist.
Years ago I came across a Portland, Maine, native who lost his job during the pandemic. That's when Kyle Randall decided to give his passion and love, art, his full attention.
But as many artists know, art sometimes doesn't pay the bills. Kyle figured out a way to do both with a postcard subscription.
What exactly is a 'postcard subscription' from Kyle in Portland, Maine?
Great question, and self-explanatory.
You subscribe, and Kyle mails you a new postcard of his drawings! I signed up and have been one of his longest subscribers. I love his art, and his take on Portland, Maine, - one of my favorite places on earth.
But how did I become a pen pal to this local artist? That's a funny twist.
I loved my postcard subscription so much, I wanted to give it as a gift to a friend. But I could not for the life of me figure out how to do that. So I wrote to Kyle based on the return address on his monthly postcard mailings.
He wrote me back! He didn't email me, didn't Instagram/Facebook message me - he sat down with pen and paper and wrote to me. He thanked me for being such a long-time subscriber and told me how to get a subscription to a friend.
Who writes letters anymore?
An artist and a DJ. Someone once asked,
What do you do with all your postcards?
Sometimes I give them away if the picture has meaning to someone. I've also put them around because they are art and should be displayed.
I love, love, love this small treat in the mail monthly. I'd sooner give up Disney + than this subscription. If you would like to subscribe, I highly recommend it. Click here for details on Kyle T. Randall's art and postcard subscription.
