Wintertime in Maine can be insanely paralyzing if you don't make sure you keep your mind busy that's for sure.

I think a lot of us struggle to find fun things to keep us busy that don't include outside patio bars, and that's okay.

I also think you're either a winter sports person or you're not, and if you're not occupied by going up to the mountains every weekend, it can be really tough to figure out something fun.

So here, I'll do it for you!

Here are some activity suggestions you can throw into the group chat and see if you can rally a group of friends to do them with you. It's a short little bucket list you can easily complete as a Mainer (or someone visiting New England!).

1. Ice Fishing

Create your own ice fishing lodge with a heater and some drinks and make a day out of it!

However, you will need to make sure you follow some strict rules with this sport that you can read all about here.

What lake in Maine is best for ice fishing?

According to northwoodssportingjournal, the following lakes are pretty highly recommended for the sport: West Musquash Lake in Talmadge, Cathance Lake in Cooper, Green Lake in Ellsworth, and Eagle Lake in Bar Harbor.

2. Ice Castles

It may not be in Maine, but it's the perfect road trip for Mainers. Travel on down to Woodstock and explore the magical ice castles in New Hampshire.

It's about a 2-hour drive give or take from Portland, and it is totally worth the time spent to get there.

3. Winter Fireworks

Here's my final item on this quick winter bucket list for Maine. It's like taking the Fourth of July and bringing it to winter.

I'm talking about winter fireworks.

Are there any winter fireworks shows in Maine?

Yes! Check out Winterfest in Auburn at Lost Valley Ski Resort.

There are tons of family-friendly activities, and my favorite part is the fireworks extravaganza!

These are just a few items to give you some winter fun. What else should people do in the winter in Maine?
