Cheer on These 32 New Englanders Competing in the 2024 Olympics in Paris

According to the United States Olympic & Paralympic Committee, you'll be able to cheer on the 592 athletes of the U.S. Olympic Team when the 2024 Summer Games in Paris officially kick off on Wednesday, July 24.
If you're wondering who from Team U.S. is from New England, 32 competitors, ranging from basketball players to gymnasts to rowers, make up that list.
When Is the First 2024 Olympics Paris Game Featuring a New England Athlete?
Team USA's first game takes place on Day 1, Wednesday, July 24, with a men's rugby match against France at 10:30 a.m., and that also happens to be the first game featuring a New England athlete: Madison Hughes of Lancaster, Massachusetts.
The 31-year-old Olympian, who also competed in the 2016 and 2020 games, is.a graduate of Dartmouth College in New Hampshire and a big fan of the Boston Red Sox and New England Patriots, according to his Team USA bio.
The first Team USA game featuring a female New England athlete comes a day later on Thursday, July 25. Goalkeeper Alyssa Naeher of Stratford, Connecticut, and the women's soccer team face Zambia at 3 p.m.
The 36-year-old also competed in the 2016 and 2020 games, the latter in which she earned a bronze medal, according to her Team USA bio.
New England Athletes Competing in the 2024 Paris Olympics
There are a total of 32 competitors from New England on the Team USA roster, including 16 from Massachusetts, 8 from Connecticut, 3 from Rhode Island, 3 from Vermont, and 2 from New Hampshire. There are none from Maine.
Rowing is the sport featuring the most New Englanders at 11.

When Is the Olympics Paris 2024 Opening Ceremony?
While the games and Teams USA start on Wednesday, July 24, the opening ceremony takes place on Friday, July 26.
The Olympics.com states this will be the first opening ceremony held outside a stadium.
