New Hampshire State Police Have Stopped 700 Drivers Going Over 90MPH
Over the weekend of July 25th and 26th police departments across New England, with the coordination of the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, were out giving speeding tickets and reminding drivers to obey the posted speed limits.
According to the NTSB, between 2021 and 2022, 18% of all drivers involved in fatal traffic crashes were speeding at the time of the crash, and 29% of all those killed in crashes were in speeding-related ones. It's a problem and it needs to get under control, so it's nice to see that action is being taken.
One of the stats that the New Hampshire State Police shared during that weekend is mind-blowing. So far in 2024, they have stopped 700 drivers going over 90 mph. Even worse, 71 drivers were going 100 mph or more.
In Maine, criminal speeding is when a driver goes 30 mph over the posted speed limit. You could go to jail for driving that fast. In New Hampshire however, there is no criminal speeding law, because "Live Free or Die." The worst you can get charged with is a misdemeanor, but it will still cost you. According to AllLaw.com, driving over 100 miles per hour in New Hampshire is a misdemeanor and carries a $500 fine and a 60-day license suspension.
These dangerous speeds can cause accidents and possibly even kill someone. The need for speed can have terrible outcomes that could change your life in so many ways. It's always better to get where you are going safely than to get there as fast as you can.
