
Meteor Sightings Shower the Internet in Maine and Massachusetts
A frequent question was posed throughout social media channels on the evening of June 2, 2025. That question was summarized as "did anyone else hear that loud boom?"
From portions of southern Maine through central Massachusetts, people took to Facebook, Reddit and other social media networks in hopes of getting answers and find others that heard the strange noises.
A Reddit chain featured several witness that claimed to hear a loud boom or series of booms around 6pm on Monday evening. What was the cause of those booms? The answer may be out of this world.
Meteor Sightings Flood Into a Database on Monday Evening
According to a database that tracks all reported meteor sightings in the sky, there were more than a half dozen reported sightings out of Massachusetts between 6 and 8pm on Monday evening.
A witness account of a meteor sighting also came from Gorham, Maine, where an individual proclaimed to see a "bright green and plasma pink streak" that lasted for about 3 to 4 seconds in the sky on Monday night.
Meteorites Recently Fell to Earth and Landed in Maine
Just a couple months ago, NASA confirmed that a meteorite had fallen from the sky and landed in a rural portion of Maine. Many of the characteristics from that incident are the same from witness accounts of Monday evening.
In the February 21, 2025 meteorite fall, witnesses claimed hearing a sonic boom around 8pm. When looking up at the sky, witnesses claimed to see a bright green flash for a few seconds before it disappeared.
