About one year ago, the news broke that Salvage BBQ in Portland, Maine, would be closing their doors permanently.

At the time, it was another restaurant domino to fall amongst many in a city that saw a flurry of prominent eateries close permanently in the fall of 2024.

For so many that loved Salvage, the restaurant's closure left behind a void that lots hoped would be filled. People took to social media to wonder if a sports bar would take over the vacant space and play to the crowds for the Sea Dogs, Celtics and Hearts of Pine.

After more than 10 months being listed for lease, there is something new going into the old Salvage BBQ space. But it won't be another restaurant or sports bar.
