What is the cutoff when it comes to teenagers going trick or treating?

Before I dive into this I want two things to be known:

1. There is no "law" or clearly explained rules in nearly any county or state as to the "cut off" age.

2. I do not have kids. This is just the opinion of someone in their late 20s... so... what do I know?

Here is my take - anyone under the age of 18, who is in costume, polite, and following the rules of "trick or treat" should be allowed to go trick-or-treating.

Trick-or-treating is usually associated with little kids. I remember having older friends, and an older sibling, so I was "done" trick-or-treating at an early age.

Instead, I started going to teenage parties, playing manhunt, and likely causing chaos in my town.

And that is not really what the town wants... right?

Although I would never be caught trick-or-treating as a 16 or 17-year-old, if there are some who want to go at that age, let them!

Back to my two points:

Now being a homeowner, and passing candy out the night of Halloween, I would not think twice if a teenager came to my door wearing a costume and asking for candy.

That said, if a 16-year-old comes to my door holding a pillow case with a Celtics t-shirt on, not even saying the punch line (trick or treat)... that is a different story.

I think that trick-or-treating can be a good way to keep teenagers out of trouble, but even they have to play by the rules. The second they are "too cool" to dress up or say the saying (trick or treat), they have reached their cut-off.

For many, that "too cool" cut-off age is around 10-12. But if the spirit, politeness, willingness to dress up, and want to trick or treat is still present at age 16... go for it!

I'll happily give you candy at my house!

If New Hampshire Towns were Halloween Candies

If your town was a Halloween candy which would it be and why? Granite Staters were faced with this exercise and here is what they said.
