Big Lots has been a favorite chain store for many years.  With over 1,400 stores nationwide, the retail outlet is known for fantastic deals on back to school items, furniture, and outdoor items for all seasons.

I've never met a holiday where I didn't find fantastic decorations at Big Lots.

My daughter needed a sofa for her first apartment, so we went to Big Lots. I needed a new outdoor living room set, my son needed college furniture, and my husband needed some snacks.  Big Lots has it all.

With brick and mortar retailers struggling in this difficult economy, Big Lots executives have made the decision to close over 300 stores nationwide, according to WMUR-TV.  One of those stores is in New Hampshire.

Currently, there are six Granite State Big Lots locations in Belmont, Claremont, Derry, Goffstown, Nashua, and Rochester.  The Claremont location on Washington Street is scheduled to close, but no date has been revealed.

Other retail chains that carry a little bit of everything – like Christmas Tree Shops or Dollar Tree/Family Dollar – have also shuttered most of their stores due to inflation and shoplifting, according to independent.co.uk.

While Big Lots is only closing underperforming stores, the company is also closing the Portland, Maine store, and five more in Massachusetts.   Patrons are spending less of their discretionary money, in part due to inflation.

According to fastcompany.com, Big Lots stock prices are down 88% year to date, which means the chain needs a quick turnaround.
