Mt Washington

Well, this is an amazing photo from the great folks at the Mt Washington Observatory. The top of Mt Washington (6288 feet high) is famously known as "Home of the World's Worst Weather" but on a calm day, it is home to some of the most beautiful views on the planet. Today the Observatory posted this incredible picture of 4 planets, the moon and the Milky Way all lined up. The photo gave us a minute to pause and give some big-picture perspective on all that we are going through right now. I came away hopeful- that humans have gone through so much over thousands of years, and that we will get through this pandemic as well. You don't have to be an astronomer to enjoy and be blown away from this photo

So what do they do when the winds are blowing at these insane speeds? Well, send an intern into the belly of the beast of course.

Winter is bearing down on us in Maine and New Hampshire and the best way to get through it is by leaning right into it! A snowcat trip to the top of the place that has 'the worst weather in the world." Yup, around here that's a badge of courage. And a challenge!

A huge November cold snap foreshadows what might be on the horizon for winter in New Hampshire.

Sure, we are in the Dog Days of summer. And yes, July in Portland was not just the hottest July ever, but the hottest MONTH ever. Despite all of that, believe it or not, there is still some snow on the ground in Northern New England.

We certainly had some wicked thunderstorms move through in the past 24 hours. Many lost power! It always looks pretty cool on top of Mt. Washington, but can you imagine watching a thunderstorm up there? The great folks at the Observatory caught a good strike on Thursday night.

OK, who in the hell built a frickin' SNOWMAN in the middle of July? Who is it? We want names. Right now! Oh...you say it's a bunch of guys called CIRRUS CONTENDERS? What, are they some kind of weird weather-type gang or something?

Well, this is kinda cool looking! The awesome people at the Mt Washington Observatory caught this picture over the weekend. Something about "stacked lenticular clouds." We think it looks like a giant UFO!

Have you ever driven up Mt Washington? It's a beautiful drive--6288 feet up. If you've never done it, it's not too scary at all! Driving up usually takes about 30 minutes. BUT, if you're in a #199SubaruWRX STI with a specially fitted 600hp engine it's a lot shorter trip.

They call it the nastiest weather in North America and they ain't kidding. The wind is roaring on top of Mt. Washington!

Mount Washington is home to some crazy wind and temperature records, but it's not often that you can actually see how it affects the weather here in New England.

With a reported 18 inches of snow already and 6 foot drifts, look at all the snow caught on video earlier today from our friends at the Mount Washington Observatory. AHHHHHHHH!!!
