Their first Blimpville appearance was at the Portland Expo on April 28, 1974 then the Lewiston Armory in February of 1975. The third show happened the first year that the Cumberland County Civic Center opened in November of 1977. In 1980 they came back to Portland for the last time, able to leave their fur coats behind for a summer night in Maine.

After Dave left Van Halen in 1985, Eddie was on the hunt for a new singer. Rumor has it he asked Patty Smyth of Scandal and she passed, then Eddie asked Daryl Hall after a Hall and Oates concert to sing in Van Halen, but he also declined . Two strikes. But Eddie gets third time lucky when he’s introduced to Sammy Hagar.

Black Crowes drummer and founding member, Steve Gorman is celebrating a birthday today. He was born in Muskegon, Michigan on August 17, 1965. Happy 51st Birthday to one of Portland’s favorite drummers and one of WBLM’s best bros.

33 years ago, Loverboy sold out the Civic Center again! The Keep It Up Tour came to Blimpville with the Canadians from Calgary. On August 16,1983, it was the second of three shows during the 80s at Portland’s largest venue, all of them sellouts.
