10 Things in Maine Cheaper Right Now Than a Dozen Eggs
Well, there goes a cheap meal that was a go-to.
Eggs right now, according to CNN, are almost 60% more expensive than they were last year. Now we all probably thought it was due to the crappy economy and inflation. You aren't wrong, but the biggest reason for the little egg price hike is a terrible avian flu outbreak! Millions of chickens perished because of it. Right now in Maine, the average price for eggs (and it varies wildly) is around $5.50. Prices can go as high as 8 bucks for organic to 3 dollars for a 6-pack.
The average price in Maine is around $5.50 for a dozen eggs. Eggs! You know, the thing you microwave to see who wins the Super Bowl or throw at a house when you are mad. Why do we do that? Because they are so cheap! So, let's figure out what you can buy for less than the price of a dozen eggs.
1. Large Dunkin' Cold Brew - $4.39
Who needs scrambled eggs when a wicked good Cold Brew is a fine breakfast?
2. Pint of Ben and Jerry's Ice Cream - $4.99
Hey...there are eggs in that ice cream! It's almost like you are getting a two-for-one deal!
3. McDonald's Big Mac - $3.99
Tell me there isn't a day that goes by where at one point in that day you say to yourself,
Man...I sure could go for a Big Mac.
4. Wicked Whoopie Pie - $2.49
Ayhu! Keep your fancy expensive dozen eggs and give me a couple of good ol' Wicked Whoopie pies!
5. One Pint of Blueberries - $4.99
These are better for you than eggs anyway.
6. One Pound of Fluff - $2.79
An entire pound of fluff? You get some peanut butter and a loaf of bread and you'll forget all about the incredible edible egg.
7. B&M Baked Beans - 1 Can $1.99
I don't want to get into the fact that these don't taste the same after they yanked the production out of Portland and stuck it in the midwest. I'm just saying that you can buy like 3 cans for the price of a dozen eggs. However, you can't buy the red hot dogs to go with it, because those are wicked expensive!
8. One 16oz Can of Allagash White - $2.99
Ahhhhh, one of Maine's most popular beers. If you asked someone right now if they would rather have an egg or an Allagash White, what do you think their answer would be? That's right, and it's cheaper than a dozen eggs.
9. Chocolate-Covered Twinkie From Robin's Confections - $3.00
Oh yes, all day long. This list has made me completely forget that chickens or eggs even exist.
10. Two Mega Millions Tickets - $4.00
Hey, if a Mainer in York County can pull in $1.5 billion, why not you too? Has anyone ever won a billion dollars making an omelet? I don't think so.
They hope that the prices go down in the next few months. But until then, keep this handy dandy list of things you can afford.
