11-Year-Old Maine Girl is Dominating Adult Cornhole Competitions & Breaking Barriers
Let's talk about cornhole. According to Meriam Webster, cornhole is "a lawn game in which players toss beanbags toward a slanted platform with the aim of passing the beanbag through a hole in the center of the platform."
Historically cornhole is a game that you play at barbeques or any outside gathering. Like badminton, who could possibly picture that this particular game could become a competitive sport?
Well, it is now, and it's awesome. According to News Center Maine, sixth grader, Rilee Schoff from Hollis, Maine, is taking cornhole by storm! She's become a cornhole rockstar, beating men three times her age only after 2 years of playing the game.
Apparently cornhole is growing rapidly as a competitive sport throughout the nation and also in Maine. Rilee has become an advanced player.
Her father brought home a cornhole board and the 11 year old started playing with her brother in the backyard. As she practiced and some time had past, everyone had noticed her talent advancing, so she was enrolled into her first tournament.
Can you imagine walking down the street with your bean bags in hand and someone says,
"Hey girl! Whatcha doing with those bags?" and you say,
"I'm heading to dominate middle-aged men in a cornhole tourney, no biggy."
Believe it or not, there is an American Cornhole League, that has the US rankings, official cornhole rules, how to become a member and all of the recent news on the sport. The website it legit and so is cornhole.
As you can imagine, young Rilee is the only kid and only girl and the only person of color at the tourneys. Miss Rilee is breaking barriers and throwing bean bags!
She does so well in these tournaments that she is signed to a big cornhole company and also wins cash prizes as well.
Moral of the story, be what you are. If you love cornhole, play cornhole. If you like to build things, become an engineer. If you're like me and don't have many talents, be a radio DJ.
All in all, Rilee teaches us to follow our dreams, no matter what they are!
