13 Reasons We Should Be Pulling for New England Native Steven Tyler

In the latest turn of an up-and-down 2022 for New England native Steven Tyler, the Aerosmith singer has been hospitalized with an undisclosed illness.

It forced the band to cancel the remainder of its 2022 performances, and there has been no definitive word on the Rock and Roll Hall of Famer’s ailment or condition. Rather, fans were left to respect Tyler’s privacy – and also, worry.

As we had just bid farewell to longtime Maine resident and “Cheers” star Kirstie Alley, pardon me if a few hairs went up when I heard that another New England icon was in poor health. Especially Tyler, whose health struggles and battles with addiction are well-documented.

Just this past spring and summer, the band was forced to cancel shows as Tyler checked himself into rehab, reportedly struggling with pain management following foot surgery. But as he always does, Tyler was back almost as quickly as we knew he’d gone in, performing to a capacity crowd at Fenway Park in Boston this past September.

But Tyler is still with us, and given his amazing resilience, there’s no reason to doubt that he’ll kick out once again and take the stage with Aerosmith in 2023. Too often in life, we wait until people are no longer with us to share everything we love about them.

Who knows? That type of positivity could be enough to lift someone’s spirits.

While many think of him as the singer for Aerosmith, there’s more to Steven Tyler than his singing and songwriting that earns him a spot on New England’s metaphorical Mount Rushmore.
