A recent study determined that 5% of New Englanders hate picnics. This fact was so disturbing to me that I had to create a list of 5 perfectly logical reasons why anyone would feel that way.

5 Perfectly Logical Reasons Why New Englanders Could Hate Picnics

I don't know if you have ventured outside on any grass that hasn't been mowed repeatedly this year, but the tick situation has to be at an all time high.

NH Fish And Game always suggests to use bug spray with Deet, but I'm starting to think that the American Dog Tick is becoming resistant to it.

The only way I'll walk in the woods or tall grass this year is if I'm wearing shorts, as this is the easiest way to get at them as they make their first crawl up your ankle. Any kind of long pants and they could be crawling undetected for hours.

A lighter colored picnic blanket could at least serve as an island of protection against them though as they're not all that fast and would be easy to spot.

Still, in my humble opinion, the rewards outweigh the risks when it comes to picnicking in New England. We really only have around one hundred days in which we can enjoy this, so I think if the opportunity presents itself, you should definitely go.

I don't know if this is strictly a New England thing, but the main course is usually either cold fried chicken or gigantic cold cut subs which are two of my favorites. Add in some homemade potato salad and any of the annoyances listed above just melt away like the ice cube in your lemonade.
