After January 30,2018 Your Maine State ID May Not Get You Onto a Plane!
I remember when the legislature passed the Real ID law back in 2007 and Maine, along with other states, refused to comply because of objections over privacy concerns. After digging in our heals and being given 3 extensions we have run out of options. Unless we comply, we won't be able to use our Maine IDs or driver's licenses to board commercial flights after January 30, 2018. According to Homeland Security, acceptable alternatives would be passports, military IDs or permanent resident cards- that's a Green Card. Maine is one of only fives states that are noncompliant. South Carolina, Kentucky, Oklahoma and Pennsylvania are our fellow rebels. Stay tuned!

I'm glad I've got a passport.
