All Catholic Masses In Maine Have Been Cancelled
According to WGME, another aspect of our lives will be disrupted by COVID-19. Catholic church masses are suspended in Maine temporarily because of Coronavirus.
The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland called for the change last week and Bishop Robert P. Deeley has issued dispensation from attending mass to Maine Catholics.
According to the bishop nearly 300,000 self-identifying Catholics and 141 active Catholic churches will be affected. He went on to say that masses for weddings, funerals and baptisms may happen with only the immediate family present at the church.
Many Mainers will participate in mass and worship online through Facebook, television and radio. The Roman Catholic Diocese of Portland has put together a list of where and when to find masses, or visit your church's website for more information.
The move to suspend Catholic masses is to help prevent the spread of COVID-19 and to protect priests, the elderly and all of the most vulnerable members of the parishes.
