At the well known Red Barn Restaurant in Augusta, the breaded chicken yummies and seafood have been a crowd pleaser for decades. The unconditional love everyone receives from owner, Laura Benedict when they visit is as well.

Laura and her crew have a long wonderful history of hosting countless charity events over the years bringing the tally of donations for neighbors in need to over $1 million and counting.

"The NBC Nightly News with Lester Holt" brought the story of her miraculous work to the nation back in 2016. The NBC News crew visited the Red Barn during a fundraiser for Honor Flight Maine. That great organization allows veterans to visit national monuments in Washington, DC for free.

And now, if you ride down Riverside Dr. in Augusta and look at the sign for The Red Barn you'll yet again see a great example of neighbors helping neighbors.

Last week, there was a message on the sign to let the community know that another local favorite Lisa's Restaurant (which a little ways down the road from them on Bangor St.) would be opening.

And now this week, Laura and her compassionate crew gave props to two more popular places in Augusta to get some good pizza. They are Antigoni's also on Bangor St. and College Carry-Out on Mt. Vernon Ave.

This is a prime example of the kind of attitude we all need right now.  Laura's generous heart continues to inspire us.

Hopefully we'll see more family owned Maine businesses do the same as we continue to navigate our way through extremely challenging times.
