We Mainers are very lucky to call this state home.

Maine is filled with natural wonder, welcoming communities, delicious food, and coastal bliss.

Every now and then, all of those characteristics come together perfectly in one place — and that place is the coastal gem known as Bar Harbor.

One of Maine's Most Iconic Towns is Bar Harbor

Bar Harbor is a picturesque town located in the southern part of Downeast Maine. Known for encompassing much of Acadia National Park, it’s also a popular tourist destination that attracts visitors from near and far.

Considering that Acadia National Park draws millions of visitors each year, it’s no surprise that Bar Harbor receives its fair share of attention — especially during peak tourist season. It’s truly a match made in heaven. Visitors can explore a charming town packed with top-notch restaurants, from casual seafood shacks to upscale dining experiences. Bar Harbor also features a variety of unique shops showcasing local artists, a thriving craft beer scene, and a stunning natural setting that adds to its appeal.

There’s also a wealth of outdoor activities beyond Acadia. Whale-watching tours, sailing charters, bike rentals, birding, and coastal hikes are all part of the magic of this Maine town. It’s a perfect destination for any nature lover.

Bar Harbor Named one of the Most Beautiful Towns in America

With all that in mind, it’s no surprise that Bar Harbor was recently included on a list of the most beautiful towns — not just in New England, but in the entire country.

The popular site The Anxious Adult recently named Bar Harbor one of the 8 most beautiful towns in America to visit.

Here’s a look at why this iconic Maine town earned a spot on the list.

Nestled beside Acadia National Park, it offers breathtaking views of Cadillac Mountain and easy access to scenic trails. The harbor itself is dotted with lobster boats, and the downtown area has a welcoming mix of cafes, shops, and galleries. Visitors often come for the lobster rolls, whale-watching cruises, and the crisp ocean air that makes Bar Harbor a timeless New England gem.

Yeah, that’s a pretty good way to describe it, I’d say.

And it really can’t be overstated how fortunate it is to have one of the prettiest national parks right in your backyard. That definitely helps take things up a notch or two.

Is Bar Harbor the Most Beautiful Town in New England?

Bar Harbor was also the only New England town to make this exclusive list — quite an honor for one of Maine’s most cherished destinations.
