There Is A New Maine Boating Law To Be Aware Of This Weekend
With the 4th of July holiday on our door step, waters up and down the Maine coast will dotted with boats out to enjoy a little leisure time.
The Maine Marine Patrol will also be out to ensure that boaters are being safe.
A national safety campaign called "Operation Dry Water" works in association with the Maine Marine Patrol and other local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to heightened awareness for people who may violating boating laws by operating under the influence of alcohol, drugs, or causing safety issues by being distracted.
In addition the Maine Marine Patrol will be performing safety checks to ensure boaters have the proper number of flotation devices for each adult member on board and that children are wearing theirs at all times.
Also, a relatively new law that went into effect in April of this year is the use of kill switches. Boats and personal water crafts have had them for some time now but it is law that the link to the kill switch must be attached to the operator. Have a happy & safe holiday weekend on the water!
