Well, damn.  All that training down the drain.

According to a report from WCVB, the Boston Athletic Association has made the decision to postpone the Boston Marathon that usually happens on Patriots Day in April every year, until at least the Fall of 2021.

Boston Mayor, Marty Walsh said in a statement, according to the WCVB report:

We have appreciated the BAA's cooperation in putting public health and safety first, both by shifting the 2020 Marathon to a virtual format this fall, and by postponing the 2021 Marathon until the public health data shows that it is safe for all athletes and spectators to gather in large numbers. We look forward to holding the Marathon again to celebrate not only this world-class event, but also the resilience and solidarity that the people of Boston have shown throughout this crisis.

I was talking to a friend of mine yesterday and although we are both looking forward to everything returning back to the way things were before COVID, it's becoming more difficult to believe that it will actually happen.  After a vaccine is developed, are YOU going to be the first one in line to get it?  What if there are side effects?  Also, there will be people who are not going to get the vaccine at all.  What if those people are in your family or what if you don't know who they are and you work right next to them?

My friend and I also talked about how scared everyone is.  It's truly the weirdest time that we've ever lived through.

Hopefully, the Boston Marathon will run again in the Fall of 2021, but I have to say, the more I hear about events like this being postponed or cancelled, the less hopeful I am that things will ever go back to "normal."
