The irony is thick on gas prices.

What's the irony? Well, for the first time in a couple of years, Covid seems to actually be moving to the back burner. That means that we are able to move around a bit more. Maybe load up the car and take a trip. Oh, wait, gas is at near-record prices? Ahhhh, the irony. Honestly. If it's not one thing it's another!

According to AAA, here's where gas is on average for Maine:

Right now we are close to four dollars a gallon. Of course, some of this is supply and demand. The demand is more because we are out and about more. The current war in Ukraine is also contributing, and there will always be those who think this is 100% President Joe Biden's fault.

I had to do a double-take when I saw the prices in Falmouth.

$4.25? I cannot remember that price ever before. Granted, it's Falmouth and I know better than to get my gas on Route One in Falmouth. I get my gas with my membership with BJ's. When I went to fill up this weekend, apparently everyone else had the same thought!

The line went to the street. At BJ's, gas was $3.64. A line out to the street for gas at $3.64? That's insane! Is that the highest? AAA is a great resource for not only finding out what prices are but what they were. Remember the crash of 2008 when the housing crisis threw us all for a loop? Well, it was also a record year for gas prices.

There is some good news...kind of. Maine and the entire Northeast are high, but it's not the highest. If you are planning on a trip out west - be prepared to see gas at $5 a gallon!

AAA also does a great graph of how much gas is in every county in Maine also!

With the warmer weather, Covid restrictions loosening - be prepared when you hit the road. Again, AAA actually has a calculator to figure out how much a trip will cost you in gas based on the current price. There are a couple of unanswered questions - how high will it go and when will it go back down? Ugh.
