Closed 7-11 on Brighton Avenue in Portland Becoming a Neighborhood Pub
The Continental sounds awesome!
There's a weird intersection in a section of Portland known as Libbytown. It's got the Cat Doctor, Punky's, Vientiane Thai food, and a now abandoned 7-Eleven all at this odd intersection.
Sure a couple of things have occupied this space, but nothing that stuck. It's actually a really unique area. You can get to that closed 7-Eleven (official address 170 Brighton Avenue) from three streets! Brighton Avenue, St. John Street, and Dartmouth Street. There's even off-street parking - a hot commodity in Portland. It will be home to The Continental.
Portland Food Map reported about the new place last year with a goal of opening back in September of 2022. But that date has come and gone and now on their Instagram it's just 'coming soon'.
It's sure to be a smashing success. It's already from two established owners - Michael Barbuto of CBG Portland and Kevin Doyle from Nosh Kitchen. According to Portland Old Port, they are going for an easygoing space with a
...90s English/Irish pub vibe, inspired by the British and Irish style pubs they loved while coming of age in the mid-90s in Boston.
They’ll serve cocktails, beers, and slow-pour nitro ales and stouts. The food menu will match the English/Irish pub vibe, with Euro pub comfort food like scotch eggs, meat pies, fish and chips, and Irish breakfasts.
I had to look up what a scotch egg was. Uh, I'm in!
A Scotch Egg originates in England and according to Wikipedia is 'a boiled egg wrapped in sausage meat, coated in breadcrumbs and baked or deep-fried.'
Oh, you had me with 'wrapped in sausage meat'! Welcome to the neighborhood Continental! We can't wait to try ya!
