Maine’s Prestigious Colby College Named One of America’s Most Expensive Schools
They say college is the best time of your life, but it definitely comes with a price tag.
The popular site The College Invester recently published an article on the most expensive colleges in the nation. The site ranks the schools based on a single year of tuition, with every school near or above a $70,000 price tag.
Maine's lone member on this list is considered not only one of the best schools in the state, but also in the country. It's one of the "Little Ivy's," found right in the heart of Central Maine. That school is Colby College.
Colby College is One of Maine's Most Beautiful Campuses
Located in Waterville, Colby College has been a wonderful institution for higher learning since before Maine became a state. Founded in 1813, Colby is the second oldest university in Maine, only behind Bowdoin College (founded in 1794).
Colby's list of alumni includes Olympians, Pulitzer Prize winners, corporate CEOs, members of congress, and governors, including Maine's current leader, Janet Mills.
Colby is also known for having quite the price tag, so it's not shocking to see it on this list.
According to the College Invester, Colby College's annual cost for an undergrad is around $69,600. That will wake you up.
Let me put that cost into context. According to ZipRecruiter, the average Maine salary is just over $58,000. That's a difference of $11,000. No wonder so many people leave Maine after college.
Amazingly, Colby is just the 25th most expensive on this list. How wild is that?
Now, I'm not trying to scare anyone away from college, especially Colby. We are talking about one of the best universities in the country. All I'm saying is, start saving now. Your kids will certainly thank you.
What's the Most Expensive College in the Nation
If you were wondering, the most expensive school, according to the site, is Vasser College. The annual tuition is over $73,000.
Who says you can't put a price on education?
