Recently, we asked you about businesses that "dated" you.  Basically, we were looking for those long-gone businesses that you remember frequenting when you were young.

What we found out was that the businesses you told us about were not only the ones you remember, they were the ones you really missed.  The music shop you used to buy albums and CDs at, the store where you used to get your school clothes, the restaurants where you used to eat, and the places where you used to hang out.

Take a look at our list and let is know what we are missing.

17 Closed Central Maine Businesses We Wish Were Still Open

After polling our listeners, we've put together a list of long closed businesses that our listeners really miss. In many cases, the information about these businesses came from the memories of our listeners. If we have something incorrect, or if you want to add something, let us know. Just send us a message through our app or on Facebook.

What else needs to be on the list?  Message us through our app or on Facebook.

In most places, people use businesses as waypoints when they give directions.  For example, "Take a right at the lights just after the McDonald's, then take a left at the Dunkin'"

In Maine, we step it up!  One of the most "Maine" things you can do is give directions based on what USE to be there!  In the more rural areas, this is not limited to businesses, either.  "Take a right at what used to be Adler's gas station and then take a left where Hason Bell used to live."

Full disclosure, my mother used to do this to me when I was in my teens and 20s.  Clearly, she did not understand that I was not alive in 1967!

It's one of the cool, quirky things we do here in Maine.  It's also one of the things that makes our state such a great place to live.
