Fact Check: Are the Maine Red Claws Moving to SMCC?

After seeing several posts on social media from people saying that the Maine Red Claws NBA G League basketball team were moving from the Portland Expo to Southern Maine Community College, I decided to do some fact checking on why people were thinking this was the case.

No, the Red Claws are not moving to SMCC, however their annual Jr. Red Claws Summer Camp is moving to the SMCC gymnasium this year.

For the moment, the Portland Expo is being used to shelter asylum seekers who have come to Portland until they can find housing, so the summer camp for young basketball players has moved to the new location.

The regular season for the Maine Red Claws is still planned to be played at the Portland Expo for their 10th season as they always have. The 2019-2010 schedule hasn't been announced yet, but expect it to start in early November.
