According to WMTW, Maine State Rep. Jared Golden is introducing the "Solidarity in  Salary Act of 2019" bill. This legislation would put the salaries of the president and members of Congress into escrow during government shutdowns. Their pay would be released at the same time as Federal workers', when the government reopens.

The shutdown was devastating to over 800,000 federal workers who missed two paychecks during the shutdown. They will get their back pay, but those living paycheck to paycheck struggled to pay their bills.

Some of the contract workers getting paid the least aren't even guaranteed to get their back pay. More than a million workers contracted to get paid for services by the government received no income.

Some government employees worked for free.

This is a bipartisan bill. Rep. Jared Golden, a Maine Democrat is joined by Reps. Dan Crenshaw (R-Texas) and Max Rose (D-NY) in introducing the bill.
