Food Truck Plaza Planned For Portland’s Eastern Prom and Some Residents Aren’t Happy
If you've ever been up on the Eastern Prom in Portland during the summer, you've likely seen the big line of food trucks parked on the side of the street serving their wares to people out enjoying a nice day overlooking the ocean. The City of Portland is upping their food truck game with upgrades to the Prom to create a food truck plaza and not everyone is happy about it.
I was on the Prom one day last summer and the amount of trash all over the ground caused by overflowing trashcans and just careless people tossing their garbage anywhere they want was pretty overwhelming. There were also a ton of people there that day and lines at the trucks were long. A little of that is on me though as I don't like large crowds.
According to WMTW, some people living near the Eastern Prom don't like it as much as I don't and think this planned food truck plaza is a bad idea. The Eastern Prom is already crowded during the summer with residents and tourists alike. In fact, most of the cars I saw that day had out-of-state plates.
The City of Portland's plans to address the trash issue by installing trash cans that actually store trash underground up to 3000 gallons. That's great if you can make sure everyone actually uses them. Electrical drops are also planned to stop the noise of the generators that power the food trucks.
The Food Truck Plaza has not yet been approved, but if you ask me, there's likely a better place to make Food Truck Plaza in Portland than up on the Eastern Prom.
