Good News and Bad News For Portland’s Sinful Kitchen

The bad news is that the Sinful Kitchen is moving. The good news is that the Sinful Kitchen is moving.

The Sinful Kitchen at 906 Brighton Avenue has had a rough go of it. If you have been on Brighton Avenue near the Lowes area, you know that the construction has been insane. Last December the construction company that was doing the water main work on Brighton Ave was trying to thaw the temporary water lines since their work was delayed in the winter. While using an industrial propane torch, they accidentally started a fire in the kitchen wall of the Sinful Kitchen! They had to close for 10 days to fix everything.

Now, Dave Mallari, the head chef and co-owner has decided with his wife to move after almost 7 years. Here's where the good news is. They aren't moving far. They are staying on Brighton Avenue and moving from 906 to 952 - where the old Subway was.

That's just four doors down from their old location for those loyal customers who pack the breakfast and brunch favorite! They hope to have a smooth transition, but Covid has a way of making everything bumpy. They were shooting for an April opening, but it's looking like it may be closer to May.

The cool part of the Sinful Kitchen is Dave the self-taught chef. He LOVES helping people and before he became a chef he worked in physical therapy specializing in patients with traumatic brain injuries and vestibular disorders. He has left healthcare but is still the Executive Director of Operations for the HOPE Foundation International. They provide year-round medical assistance to the underserved indigenous people of the Phillippines. They do medical missions with doctors, nurses, dentists, and pharmacists every January since 1993 (except for Covid restricting the last two years). He also owns The Pig Kahuna, doing whole pig roasts to sold-out crowds around New England since 2006. Yes, Dave has NO spare time.

Dave loves what he does and you can tell in his fun creations! The Sinful Kitchen's best-sellers are the crabmeat-avocado benedict, housemade corned beef hash, and stuffed French toast. Stuffed differently every day or week! Hell, the waffles don't look too shabby either! This is the peanut butter cup waffle before the whipped cream!
