We've been seeing stories about the government shutdown all over the news lately. Many of these stories highlight government workers who are not getting a paycheck, and having a hard time figuring out how to pay their bills. But did you know that government shutdown also affects local beer breweries? It's true. According to the Bangor Daily News, the Alcohol and Tobacco Tax and Trade Bureau is part of of the U.S. Department of the Treasury. Due to the shutdown, they are closed.

They are the ones who approve labeling for every bottle or can of alcohol produced and sold in the United States. So, any brewery that wants to put out a new kind of beer right now cannot do so without their approval. Bummer! So for the sake of local beer, let's hope they get this government shutdown thing figured out pretty quickly.
