A Maine man is being hailed a hero today following a crash that happened June 7 evening in the town of Brownfield.

According to WGME 13, a 60-year-old man was driving on Center Conway Road at about 6 pm on Tuesday when the man's vehicle left the roadway and struck a rock. The car was then reportedly launched into nearby trees before landing headlights down on the ground.

When the car landed, it caught fire and trapped the man inside, the news station reported.

WGME said that the man was finally able to free himself from the car and escape but was on fire when he got out. A nearby Good Samaritan saw what was happening and quickly rushed over to the scene to help, the news station added.

The Good Samaritan was reportedly able to get the man extinguished before emergency crews arrived.

Oxford County Sherriff, Christopher Wainwright, told WGME that the actions of the Good Samaritan undoubtedly saved the life of the man who had been in the crash.

LifeFlight of Maine was called in to transport the man to the hospital where at last check he was listed in critical condition, according to WGME.
