Wallethub.com has released the results of their annual report on how patriotic America's states are. Indicators included how many citizens vote in elections, how many veterans and enlistees live there and the amount of Peace Corps and AmeriCorps volunteers per capita there are, among others.

Last year's most patriotic state was also this year's, and the winner is, (drumroll please...), New Hampshire. Civic engagement is kinda' their thing, and our friends in New Hampshire proudly declare, "Live Free or Die" on their license plates. Drive along their lakes and count the American flags being flown at camps.

Maine ranked at number 15 among the most patriotic states. Here are some of our stats:

  • 1st place for the number of adults that voted in the 2016 Presidential Election
  • 4th place for the amount of veterans per 1,000 civilian adults
  • 8th place for volunteer rate
  • 8th place for volunteer hours per resident
  • 8th place for Peace Corps volunteers per capita
  • 19th place for AmeriCorps volunteers per capita

So volunteering is where Mainers shine. Supporting our fellow Americans is part of our social fabric and how we try to strengthen our country.
