According to WMTW, many businesses are stepping up to offer gratitude, discounts and freebies to nurses during National Nurses Week.

Nurses have always amazed me because I see them as calming, confident, compassionate and professional. When I was little I would play nurse because the idea that I could make someone feel better was amazing. Like mommy, nurses had the power to  comfort. As an adult I understand more deeply the commitment that it takes to be a nurse; to care so much about other people that you dismiss their gross body stuff and treat their soul.

National Nurses Week runs May 6th through May 12th. BTW, May 12th is Florence Nightingale's birthday and this holiday was begun because of her. Florence was of course known for her commitment and passion to nursing; but she was also a writer, social reformist and responsible for starting the first secular nursing school in the world. She was a true bad ass and fought for women to join the workforce. Yup, Florence Nightingale is an icon and many have followed in her footsteps.
