It looks like students from the Augusta School District are going to start their summer vacation a few days earlier than expected.

Even though we did not have a lot of snow during the winter of 2023/2024, we still had a lot of rough weather.  Many Central Maine schools were closed for several days during December's 'Grinch' storm.  Additionally, there were other weather events that caused the closure of schools.

These snow days led to school administrators scrambling to prevent the school year from extending into the third week of June.

To compensate, several planned early release days were changed to full days.

Now, it looks like the kids will be able to get out of school a few days earlier than expected.

According to a press release from the Augusta School District:

Dear Parents, We recently received good news from the Maine Department of Education who approved a waiver of some of our snow days.

Under this updated calendar, the last day of school will be June 11.  As it has been in years past, it will be an early release day.  Cony Middle School and Cony High School will be released at 9:30.  Augusta's elementary schools will be released at 10:30.

The press release also says:

As we approach the end of the school year, we encourage you to check with your individual schools for the specific daily schedule regarding activities and any other details related to the last day
