Having spent time in many of the states on the East Coast, I can honestly say that one of the great things about Maine is how many amazing restaurants we have.  Yes, we have a lot of great chains, but the locally-owned eateries are where our state really shines.

If you ask any Mainer (or frequent visitor to our state) to suggest a restaurant, they will probably be quick to suggest at least two or three of their favorites.

Of course, their suggestions may change depending on the time of the year.  Some of our best restaurants are seasonal.

We just got word that a local favorite has announced an opening date for their 2024 season.

Bolley's Famous Franks Hallowell

The owners of the Hallowell eater have announced that they will be reopening at 7 AM on Tuesday, April 2.

Why would a hot dog place open at 7 AM?  Because they serve breakfast, too.  In fact, one of the things people love most about the restaurant is its fresh donuts.

The Menu

If you have never been to Bolley's Famous Franks, they have way more than just their famous hot dogs.  The place serves burgers, sandwiches, chicken baskets, haddock baskets, shrimp baskets, amazing onion rings, and poutine!

And, as I mentioned above, they make some unbelievable donuts.  Made fresh daily, they come in four varieties: plain, chocolate, cinnamon, and molasses.

A Legacy of Serving Great Food in Central Maine

According to their restaurant website, the business has been around for over five decades.  Bolley opened his first place on Western Avenue in Augusta in the 1960s.  The business relocated to its Water Street location in Hallowell in 1972.  Don Pooler got his first job from Bolley when he was 16.  Don and his wife bought the restaurant in 1997.
