You’ll Find 7 of America’s Favorite Grocery Stores in Maine
If there is one thing that I have learned from conversations with friends, family, and coworkers it is that we are all very dedicated to our grocery stores.
Most of the people I know will do almost anything to shop of their favorite grocery stores. Or, at least, their favorite grocery store chain.
When you think about it, though, it does make sense. When you shop at the same store all the time, you know what to expect. You know what products and brands you will find at that store. Even more important, considering how busy we all are, you know where in the store you'll find those items.
Sometimes, our pick for our favorite grocery store comes from trial and error. We visit several different stores before landing on the one that we really like. We find that we may like one thing about this store and something different about that store. Eventually, most of us decide what store we like the best.
America's Favorite Grocery Store Chains
Recently, Good Housekeeping published the results of a survey of more than 30,000 grocery store shoppers in the United States.
The American Customer Satisfaction Index crunched the numbers on grocery stores by asking shoppers how happy they really are. They used a 0–100 scale and looked at everything from store hours and locations to how easy it is to find good ingredients and name-brand stuff. They also factored in things like how friendly the staff is, how well the store apps work, and whether checkout feels quick or painful. The data came from thousands of email surveys sent out between January and December of 2025. Shoppers were randomly picked to review big supermarket chains, along with a catch-all group for smaller grocery stores. All of that feedback rolled into one overall satisfaction score that determined the rankings.
We were really excited to find that seven of the top 10 companies have (or, soon will) locations in Maine.

While Aldi's has not actually opened as of the time when this article was written, we'll still keep them on the list. So, the only chains we don't have on this list are Wegman's, HEB, and Publix.
