How Will the Smoke From the Canadian Wildfires Affect Maine?
If you have spent any time watching the news, or looking at news websites, in the last few days, there is a good chance that you have stumbled across at least a few stories about the wildfires currently burning across Canada.
It should not be a surprise that the smoke from those intense fires has started to drift into the United States.
Several days ago, the New York Times reported that there were serious air quality issues in the midwestern states. Minnesota, Illinois, and Wisconsin, for example.
Now, it looks like the smoke has started to impact our air quality here in New England.
According to an article on the WABI website, the Maine Department of Environmental Protection has issued an Air Quality Alert for parts of Maine.
While much of the smoke will be concentrated along Maine's coast, the effects will be seen throughout much of Central Maine, too.
Throughout Central Maine, the quality will be 'moderate'. However, along the coast, the air quality will be considered 'unhealthy for sensitive groups'.
If you are affected by poor air quality, it is suggested that you stay inside as much as possible, avoid strenuous activity, and that you take frequent breaks.
