Check Out the Snowfall Totals! Many Maine Towns Get More Snow Than Expected
If you were one of those people hoping for a White Christmas, it looks like you got your wish.
The pre-Christmas storm (Christmas Eve Eve storm?) rolled into Maine on Tuesday afternoon and, over the course of 12+ hours, dumped loads of snow on the state. As of the time this article was written (9:30 AM on Christmas Eve), the snow is still falling in Augusta. However, it has tapered off to just snow showers.
The really wild part of the storm was the fact that, in many places, we got way more snow than was expected. In a lot of spots in Central Maine, meteorologists from local TV stations were calling for 2" to 6". Some places in those snowfall bands ended up getting about three times that amount!
Freeport, for example, was in the 3" to 6" band, but ended up with about 17" according to some estimates.
Here in Augusta, we were in the 6" to 10" range and ended up with about 8" (so far).
