When it comes to where to get gas, most people have their 'spot' that they always try to go to. Maybe it's because it's always a good price, maybe it's conveniently located on their morning commute, or maybe they just have wicked good coffee.

Either way, we are creatures of habit who, for the most part, always do the same routine whether it's getting ready for work or getting gas for the car. But what if you're really looking for the cheapest gas in your area?

To be fair, I didn't do trending gas research or drive around the entire state of Maine logging gas prices. As a matter of fact, this is merely just an observation of mine, though it's one I've been making for well over the last year.

When it comes to gas prices in Central Maine, I've found that prices typically seem to be higher when you get into more populated areas like Augusta, Gardiner and Waterville. On the flip side, gas prices, or at least it seems as much, tend to get cheaper when you get into more rural areas.

Where I live is admittedly pretty darn rural. I live in the heart of Central Maine's Amish Country on the Windsor/Whitefield line. And even though it's pretty rural out there, we still have four gas stations that are all within a four minute drive from our home.

And even though we have four gas stations near our house, and another 20 I drive by in Augusta every day, I always find the cheapest gas at Country Corners, 184 Main Street in Whitefield.

Week after week I find that Country Corners has the cheapest gas in the area. Sometimes they're cheaper by three cents and other times it's north of a 20 cent per gallon difference. Either way, when you have a 32 gallon fuel tank like I do, every penny matters.
