Listen, I don't know a lot about much, however, I do consider myself to be the go-to authority of chicken tenders, especially here in Central Maine.

Over the years, I've written a fair share about local places to grab incredible chicken tenders. A couple of the best places including Lisa's Restaurant, Two Maine Guys, Westernview Golf and of course The Red Barn.

However, there's a little hidden secret in Augusta when it comes to chicken tenders. And, surprising to most people, is that this secret is actually hidden inside a Mexican restaurant.

When you think classic chicken tenders and fries, your mind doesn't immediately jump to locally-owned Mexican eateries, though it probably should. I, like many other people out there, am the person that always orders tendies no matter where we go.

This means that I've had chicken tenders at places you wouldn't even know had them on the menu. This stands true for El Agave's Mexican Restaurant in Augusta, Maine. Standing tall where Ruby Tuesday used to be, El Agave's offers an amazing atmosphere, monster-sized margaritas and incredible Mexican (and American!) cuisine.

My very first time there a few years ago was with my wife and several of our friends. After eating our weight in free tortilla chips, the sever came over to take our dinner order. When it got to me I said what I always say. 'You guys have chicken tenders?'

Much to my surprise, and everyone else's at the table, they did. And not only did they have chicken tenders, they have amazing chicken tenders served with golden brown, crispy, crunchy French fries.

So the next time you're going out for dinner and you avoid a place because they 'don't have chicken tenders', make a stop at El Agave's at the Marketplace @ Augusta and order some up. I promise you won't be disappointed!
